SARAH

I have a total of about 9 years of experience in the field. I first began working as a Behavior Therapist, which I did for 2 years while I was completing my undergraduate degree. Once finished, I was promoted to a Supervisor role and gained experience hours to earn my BCBA certification. In April of 2022 I passed my board exam and became certified as BCBA.

I received my Bachelors of Psychology from CSU Stanislaus in 2019. I then went on to complete my Masters of Psychology from Capella University in 2021. While I was completing my undergraduate degree, I wanted to pivot away from the retail world and find a job working with children. I had no specific career aspirations at this time, I just knew I enjoyed working with kids. I found an entry level job as a Behavior Therapist, working 1:1 with children with autism. I quickly fell in love with the ABA world and the population we serve. I saw how with consistent implementation of strategies and teaching of coping skills, we were able to reduce maladaptive behaviors and improve children’s life skills. Every single child and family I have worked with has taught me so much and has left a lasting impression. Because of them, I will spend the rest of my life continuing to promote a neurodivergent friendly world.

In my free time away from work, I am big on the outdoors! I enjoy hiking, swimming in the local lake, gardening, running and just soaking up the sunshine. I am an avid reader, and I love to thrift to find new novels. I have a beautiful blended family which includes 3 boys (16, 6, and 4) and a 10 year old girl, so my time away from work is mostly centered around quality family time.

I hope to one day complete my PhD in Applied Behavior Analysis. I enjoy research, and think there are endless ways we as professionals can continue to learn and improve the lives of the populations we serve. I am especially passionate about finding ways to reduce caregiver stress and burnout.

This experience in the field has made me hyper aware of my own sensory tendencies and I have a range of coping strategies that help me get through my busy days. I love flexible seating and being able to move. I have even been known to hold pop-it toys or play-doh during long meetings as this helps me stay focused. After a long day of stimulation, I prefer to have quiet time with minimal light and noise, and will cozy up under a heavy weighted blank
